Gregor Kleinknecht LLM MCIArb
Gregor Kleinknecht is the founder and managing director of Klein
Solicitors, a young, dynamic and successful independent legal boutique
located in Mayfair in the Westend of London. Gregor is a dual qualified
German Rechtsanwalt (qualified 1995) and English Solicitor (qualified
1996). He studied undergraduate law at Cologne, Geneva and Freiburg
Universities and gained an LLM degree from the University of London
(London School of Economics).
Prior to setting up Klein Solicitors in February 2007, Gregor was in
private practice at two leading City of London law firms and, most
recently, in the London office of a top ranked US law firm. Gregor’s
legal practice and career have traditionally centred on international commercial arbitration and litigation, with
a particular emphasis on complex and high value cross-border and multi-jurisdictional disputes. Gregor is a
Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an accredited mediator with ADR Group. He acts as
mediator and arbitrator through leading UK and international ADR and arbitral institutions as well as through
direct appointments, including in the field of intellectual property and domain name disputes.
He has also over recent years built a strong contentious and non-contentious international IP practice,
focusing on brand protection, and the exploitation, protection and enforcement of trademarks, domain
names, design rights and copyright, in particular.
Gregor’s practice is client driven in the Continental European tradition and not defined strictly by
practice areas, as is often the case with English law firms. In addition to dispute resolution, Gregor has
therefore throughout his career represented clients in a wide range of non-contentious corporate, commercial
and property business transactions.
His clients have to date included sovereign governments, multi-national corporations, banks and other
financial institutions, an Ivy League University, but also small innovative start-up companies, art galleries and
dealers, sports personalities, and many private clients. A substantial proportion of his work has an
international element, and some of his high profile cases have received favorable international media
coverage. Gregor’s experience covers a broad range of industry sectors, including: agro-chemical, chemical
and pharmaceutical; art, media and entertainment; automotive; aviation and defence; banking and financial
services; commercial property, construction and engineering projects; corporate and shareholder disputes,
joint ventures; distribution and transport; energy; food and beverages; civil fraud, asset tracing and recovery;
insurance recovery; international trade and commodities; IT and telecommunications; retail; and sport.
He is a member of many professional and other organizations, including the Law Society,
Rechtsanwaltskammer Frankfurt, International Bar Association (IBA), Union Internationale des Avocats
(UIA), American Bar Association (ABA), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), International
Chamber of Commerce (ICC) United Kingdom (member of arbitration and competition committees; UK
member of the recent Task Force on Reducing Costs and Delay in Complex Arbitrations and of the Task
Force on Trusts and Arbitration), Deutsche Institution für Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit (DIS); the Institute of Art
and Law (IAL), Lawyers' Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation, the Arts Club, Fondation Maeght,
Yacht Club International de la Napoule, RREC, and the Goodwood Road Racing Company.
